Quit smoking

Not with willpower alone, but with a plan that fits your life. And with someone who doesn’t drop you when it goes wrong once.

What it is about

What it is and who it is for

Quitting is rarely a matter of wanting to. You have long known it is bad for you; that doesn’t help when the craving comes. So first we look at what smoking does for you: calm, a break, company, something to do with your hands, a moment for yourself.

Then we make a plan that fits the way you live. We map your risk moments, practise what you can do instead of smoking and agree how to handle a relapse. Because a cigarette after three weeks is a moment, not a failure.

Sound familiar?

  • You have quit before and started again.
  • You mainly smoke when stressed, bored or socialising.
  • You want to quit but fear what will be left.
  • People around you smoke and you still want to make your own choice.

How it works

How we go about it

1

Mapping it out

We look at when, where and why you smoke. Not to catch you out, but to understand what the cigarette does for you.

2

A plan that fits

A quit date, an approach for the first weeks and concrete alternatives for the moments when it gets hard.

3

Keeping it up

We follow how it goes, adjust where needed and make sure a difficult moment doesn’t turn into giving up.

What to expect

Practical

  • An approach based on motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural therapy.
  • No lectures and no guilt; honesty about what works.
  • Room to talk about what lies beneath the smoking: stress, restlessness, habit.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have quit already?

No. You can come while you still smoke, while you doubt, or after ten attempts. We start where you are.

Does this work alongside patches or medication?

Yes, that combines well. Medication is something to discuss with your GP; the sessions help you with the habit and the hard moments.

Is this available in English?

Yes. Sessions are available in English and in Dutch.
